Kalau selama ini kita mengenal Gen X, Gen Y, atau Gen Z, maka saya memperkenalkan generasi baru konsumen muslim yang hanya ada di Indonesia yang saya beri nama Gen M atau #GenerationMuslim.

Inilah generasi baru konsumen muslim yang bakal mendominasi jagad pemasaran di Indonesia. Mereka knowledgeable-modern, digital savvy, socially-connected, universalist-global minded, dan jangan lupa mereka juga konsumtif. Dengan daya beli yang tinggi dan pola konsumsi yang advanced, mereka akan menjadi segmen yang lukratif dan profitable.

#KelasInspirasi Gen M

Mereka lahir di akhir tahun 1980-an dan awal tahun 1990-an dan mengalami perubahan sosial-politik yang sangat kritikal dalam sejarah perkembangan umat Islam di negeri ini. Perubahan-perubahan itu antara lain masa bulan madu Orde Baru dan Islam, kemunculan Islam intelektual (ICMI), kejatuhan Soeharto/krisis moneter, kebebasan berekspresi keagamaan di era Gus Dur, peristiwa 9/11 dan fenomena Al Qaeda/ISIS, kebebasan pers, hingga revolusi digital dan media sosial.

Berbagai formative experience itulah yang membentuk nilai-nilai dan perilaku Gen M. Mereka menjadi muslim yang inklusif dan adaptif. Mereka adalah kaum universalist yang menempatkan kebaikan Islam sebagai universal goodness (rahmatan lil alamin). Dan mereka sangat aktif mengikuti kemajuan dunia Barat yang positif seperti teknologi, demokrasi, hingga budaya pop yang kemudian diselaraskan dengan nilai-nilai Islam.

Sebagai konsumen mereka memiliki high buying power, high consumption, dan high demanding. Mereka adalah universal-benefit seeker yang memadukan ketaatan pada ajaran Islam dan kemanfaatan universal. Dengan kekuatan pasar yang dimilikinya, setiap marketer tak mungkin mengabaikan mereka.

Pastinya nggak sabar ingin mengetahui “mahluk” apa gerangan konsumen generasi baru bernama Gen M ini.
